What is mental wellness mom?
As a mother, I have felt the repercussions of not prioritizing myself. I have felt lost, isolated, alone, depressed. As a mother with a master’s education in mental health counseling, I have a passion for helping other mother’s avoid the trap of losing themselves when children enter the picture. I am passionate about empowering moms to rediscover themselves in the midst of motherhood, while helping them be the best moms they can be to their children (who are, after all, their pride and joy). I hope this site can help you on your journey of self-discovery and growth.
I'm Alexis and I hope to partner with you on your journey, with the goal of helping you maintain your sense of self while embracing the chaos (and occasional calm) of motherhood. With a background in counseling, I have worked with many moms, helping them find strength and balance in their lives. More meaningful than my professional experience though, is that I’m traveling this journey of motherhood alongside of you.
I have a 23-year-old son who is currently living with his grandparents in California, a 19-year-old daughter who is attending a state university with a major in psychology, and a strong-willed, energetic 2-year-old. In addition to my biological children, I also have a teenage step-son whose life I am privileged to be a part of. I understand the highlights of motherhood, as well as the lows and the chaotic moments. I understand the struggle of juggling all the responsibilities of motherhood and trying to care for everyone, while also maintaining your own individual identity.
Importance of Mental Wellness
Motherhood is amazing. It is the most meaningful work in the world. It is a true honor to be blessed with the gift of guiding souls through their own journey of life. Let’s be honest, though—motherhood is HARD. It’s easy to get lost in the sea of diapers, school drop offs, sports practices, and late nights. Before we know it, we aren’t even sure who we are other than “Mama.” As much as we love our kids, it’s important to remember that our wellness matters too. It may even matter MORE as a mother than it did before motherhood. After all, we have little eyes watching us and learning what it means to be a mother. They are going to grow up and model themselves (or their partners) after us.
Here at the "Mental Wellness Mom," I’m here to help guide you through this crazy adventure of motherhood, while fostering mental and emotional wellness. We’ll discuss strategies to maintain your identity, support your mental and emotional health, and offer insight and thoughts on raising happy, healthy, resilient children.
